A Promise

“A promise must never be broken.”
-Alexander Hamilton
Alexander Hamilton

No one should ever break a promise. If you make a promise than you need to keep it. It doesn’t matter how big, small, important it is, you need to keep it. Promises mean a lot to people. They put trust into what you promise and they rely on you and your promise. If you don’t keep it, it’s kinda like you were lying because you said one thing and didn’t do it. If you know you can’t keep that promise then tell the person or just don’t promise at all. Promises are a huge thing. It may not seem like it but if this promise may affect your life in the future then it matters. I know promise is just a word and it shouldn’t really mean anything but a lot of people take it to heart. This one word can really affect your life and others.

Goodness

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
-Henry David Thoreau

When he says goodness, he can mean a whole lot of things. Goodness can be being kind to people, having a good spirit and personality, helping out others and telling the truth. Goodness can be a lot of things as long as it’s true, right and good. If you invest in being good and being kind hearted and true, you will never fail. There may be consequences if you tell the truth of something that’s bad but you will learn from it. If you choose the right path and be good and truthful, you will be happier and there’s a better chance your life will be better. It’s more likely that you’ll succeed. So it’s better to be good. It’s better to tell the truth and be kind hearted and hard working.

Sound & Good

“It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound (not good)” -Joseph Smith
Joseph Smith

What he’s saying is that what should be popular is being good. Nowadays people are into doing bad because they think it’s cool and they think they’ll become popular for doing so. It shouldn’t be that way. People should do good. We should make the good people popular and the bad unpopular. What’s so cool about doing bad? You just get in trouble and you’re a bad person. Doing good and doing what’s right should be more important to people. People should find being good cool. That’s what everyone should be doing other than doing bad and getting praised for it.

Be True

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”
Abraham Lincoln

Abraham Lincoln was an honest man. He’d rather tell the truth and lose than to lie and win. Telling the truth was his thing. In this quote he says, “I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”. What he means by that is, he will stand by someone’s side as long as they are right and truthful. The minute they do wrong and lie he will leave their side. Do not be influenced by what others do and choose to do right. Tell the truth no matter how bad the consequences might be. It’s always right to do what’s right and tell the truth.

Animal Shelter

An Animal Shelter is a place where you can not only adopt pets but volunteer to give them the right kind of attention and care they need. I found a place in the San Fernando area where you can help volunteer and you can also foster the pets. What you do when you foster the pets is you give them a home (yours I’m pretty sure) and you just take care of them there until someone wants them. This is probably a good and bad thing to do because
1. It gives the animal time to get used to being in a home
2. They will get the feel of being anywhere other than the shelter
3. You may get attached. So the foster thing can go two ways. But either way is find for the pet as long as they are cared for. The shelter also provides you with the right equipment to care for the pet. Now for volunteering there are many things you can do. There’s a kitten nursery where you bottle-feed the kittens and show them attention. You can also help out at the Mobile Adoptions or their NKLA Adoption Weekend where they

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Character is higher than intellect.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson

He’s saying that your character is better than your intelligence. Well not better, but it’s better to show. You don’t want to be cocky and show people how smart you are or how much smarter you are than them. Character is key. You show people how amazing you are and how your personality rather than your intelligence. You can show your intelligence in your personality and how you talk to people but don’t gloat. It’s better to

Tyler Haws

“I trust that my hard work will pay off”
-Tyler Haws
Tyler Haws

I agree that when you work hard for something you get better at it. If you stay dedicated and take time out of your day to either perfect yourself at what you’re doing or even just start as a beginner you will get better. You can’t expect yourself to get good at something if you don’t try/practice. Like when you were a kid, you weren’t born knowing how to tie a shoe. You had to learn and practice so you could do it. The more time you put into doing something, the better you get at it. No one is born an athlete. No one is born a super-star. In order to get to where you want to be you need to stay committed and make time for that. Hard work does pay off. No one is where they are without having put time into it.

The Truly Good

“They’re only truly great who are truly good”
-George Chapman
George Chapman

I don’t truly understand this quote because of how it’s  worded but what I got out of it is that the people who are honestly good people, are great. When he says good he doesn’t mean good at everything or good at certain things. He’s saying that those with good intentions and good hearts are the greatest people. These are the people who deserve the world. Those are the people who are truly best at what they do and what they do is being a good person. The greatest people alive are the good. You can’t call a bad person with bad intentions and an ugly heart good. Only honest/real people will see that. Others may praise the bad but only real people, real good people will see that the good hearted are the best and greatest.

George Micthell

“Many think that the short term pain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition using steroids is cheating and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”
-George Mitchell

What he’s saying is that it’s not worth it to cheat because your action of cheating will always be there to haunt you. When you think about it, he’s right. There are things that I’ve done in the past that pop up in my mind out of the random. The choice you made will always come back and make you feel like a terrible person. Why cheat in the first place? It’s always going to be in your guilty conscious. Sure at the time it seems like the best idea but in the future it’s only gonna become regret. There’s no reason to cheat and nothing good will ever come out of it.
