Ralph Waldo Emerson

Character is higher than intellect.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson

He’s saying that your character is better than your intelligence. Well not better, but it’s better to show. You don’t want to be cocky and show people how smart you are or how much smarter you are than them. Character is key. You show people how amazing you are and how your personality rather than your intelligence. You can show your intelligence in your personality and how you talk to people but don’t gloat. It’s better to

“I trust that my hard work will pay off”
-Tyler Haws
Tyler Haws

I agree that when you work hard for something you get better at it. If you stay dedicated and take time out of your day to either perfect yourself at what you’re doing or even just start as a beginner you will get better. You can’t expect yourself to get good at something if you don’t try/practice. Like when you were a kid, you weren’t born knowing how to tie a shoe. You had to learn and practice so you could do it. The more time you put into doing something, the better you get at it. No one is born an athlete. No one is born a super-star. In order to get to where you want to be you need to stay committed and make time for that. Hard work does pay off. No one is where they are without having put time into it.

The Truly Good

“They’re only truly great who are truly good”
-George Chapman
George Chapman

I don’t truly understand this quote because of how it’s  worded but what I got out of it is that the people who are honestly good people, are great. When he says good he doesn’t mean good at everything or good at certain things. He’s saying that those with good intentions and good hearts are the greatest people. These are the people who deserve the world. Those are the people who are truly best at what they do and what they do is being a good person. The greatest people alive are the good. You can’t call a bad person with bad intentions and an ugly heart good. Only honest/real people will see that. Others may praise the bad but only real people, real good people will see that the good hearted are the best and greatest.

George Micthell

“Many think that the short term pain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn’t. In addition using steroids is cheating and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don’t do it.”
-George Mitchell

What he’s saying is that it’s not worth it to cheat because your action of cheating will always be there to haunt you. When you think about it, he’s right. There are things that I’ve done in the past that pop up in my mind out of the random. The choice you made will always come back and make you feel like a terrible person. Why cheat in the first place? It’s always going to be in your guilty conscious. Sure at the time it seems like the best idea but in the future it’s only gonna become regret. There’s no reason to cheat and nothing good will ever come out of it.
